Pioneering shared record hits record-breaking numbers

The Care and Health Information Exchange (CHIE) has seen usage grow by over 50% in the last 10 months, with the benefits of significant extra functionality provided by Graphnet, including Covid-19 alerts, shielded patients and advance care planning information

The shared record is today used over 94,000 times a month by health and social care professionals to provide them with better information at the point of care on 2.1 million people in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. 

CHIE is also celebrating a record figure of 9,285 unique health and care professionals accessing the system in October for direct patient care, its highest recorded number to date.

Formerly known as the Hampshire Health Record, CHIE is one of the country’s earliest and most established shared care records. 

Launched in 2003 using Graphnet’s platform, it has consistently been a trailblazer.  It was one of the first shared record systems to integrate health with social care information, and it pioneered the use of anonymised information for research and service design.  On the technical front, it was an early adopter of national open standards such as the Interoperability Toolkit (ITK) in partnership with Graphnet.  More recently, it has pushed beyond the Hampshire county borders to bring the benefits of record sharing to the 140,000 residents of the Isle of Wight, and opened access to the system to over 100 care and nursing homes.
